I keep reading this xkcd comic over and over.
Workflow.
My question is not "are there people with setups that ridiculous?" because I know if I ask that I'll get documented examples from
marydell and
jadelennox of people they knew who did things just as bad. (Not that I don't want to hear those anecdotes, guys - go ahead!)
No, my question is: what key did LongtimeUser4 use to replace the spacebar's normal function? And why not use that key as a substitute ctrl key? (or get a different keyboard model with easier to reach ctrl keys, if that's an option.)
Now that I think about it more, you couldn't just keybind the spacebar to a different key, that'd make that key the new "overheat the CPU plz" key, unless this is some very weird proprietary hardware. You'd have to create a macro for pasting U+0020. Still possible, but HOLY GOD NOT THE OPTIMUM SOLUTION HERE.

Anecdote ...
And the reason ? Once upon a time, I had a Microbee, the 64Kb version which ran CP/M as well as the uBee BASIC ROM. The standard directory listing command was "dir", but at some point I got an improved one named "c" (I can't remember if that was the original name or if I renamed it for some reason), and the name and reflex have stuck with me ever since ....
Re: Anecdote ...
It's a one letter alias for a command you use a lot, and it doesn't make things worse in any way I can see.
