Shopping

It's strange how happy I get about boring, domestic purchases.

Today I used one of my birthday gift cards at Bunnings, and bought:
- a bright yellow basin
- a little torch with a magnet and hook, to go in the car
- a power strip

I'm happiest about the power strip. It's replacing the one in my bedroom, which only works if, every night, I shift the iPhone charger from one socket to another until I find one that will work, a different one every night. I have no idea why it worked that way, but it did. Also it's dark yellow with age. I've already taken it out and put the new one in its place. It has an on/off switch with a light to let you know if it's getting power.

I don't think it's strange! I get really happy about these kinds of purchases, too. Last week I bought a new shade for the bare lightbulb in the laundry, put it up, and now the room looks much less hostile.

I love little purchases like that. Once I went and spent something like $30 on a small rug and a nice-looking dish drainer for my kitchen, and it was like, aahhhhhh, how much better is that?

Sometimes something very mundane can be dragging you down just by being a constant annoyance. Not a purchase thing, but I cut my hair quite dramatically recently, because it's fine and tangle-prone and it was getting stressful just going through the epic drama needed every day to make it look presentable. I suppose there's something seductive about saving so much hassle by doing something as minor as buying a new power strip or getting a haircut.
