Today on new experiences

If you had told me five years ago that on a hot summer night in January 2013 I would be getting a chicken down from a tree, I would have been at least a bit surprised.

Chook Group. One of the hens decided roosting in the barn was boring and stupid; or possibly just that it was cooler out there. Unfortunately for her, there is a local fox who likes chicken, so I had to get her down and lock her in with the rest of the flock.

Eleven eggs tonight. Not bad.

I don't know if you remember All Creatures Great and Small, but one of my best memories of that show was the day that Tristan Farnan (Peter Davidson, later Dr. Who) came running into the house excited about all the rare birds roosting in the tree outside, only to find that they were the family chickens that had gotten loose -- and it developed that he had no idea what a chicken looked like from underneath.

I can't remember. I *think* they were speckled black and white, or reddish, but that is probably wrong.

I can imagine it would be cooler on the backside up a tree. Poor chook!
